Ich wanted to see how much more ich habe verstehen gekonnt. Ich habe versteht viele Worte, I won't list them here because there are so many. Most notably, I heard the words "tot" and "gestorben," as well as "scheiss."
Ich auch versteht viele Sätze using modal verbs, imperative, and past tense. z.b.:
"Kenny ist im Dezember gestorben" => Kenny died in December.
"Was hast du gesagt?" => What did you say?
"Komm mit" => Kyle telling Cartman to come with him and Stan.
From Lola Rennt. The thing ich habe gelernt is that even though ich habe viele Worte und kleine Sätze versteht, ich habe viel zu lernen. i.e. I understood a lot more stuff than last time I tried this but I still barely understood what was happening aside from the overall plot of the episode.
P.S. Fun fact: Meine Freundin in another section read Deutsch recipes for her AMD. She said that she found a ton of recipes for "Amerikanisch cookies" which are just chocolate cookies.

Fur this AMD assignment, I decided that it would be Spass to reconnect with one of mien Freund from Deutschland. Sie kommt aus Norderstedt, which is near Hamburg. I met her when ich war sechzehn Jahren alt. We casually dated for the duration of her stay and kept in touch for months afterward, but eventually drifted apart. We spoke for a few hours and had much to say. It was fun to be able to initiate the conversation in Deutsch und wir haben about much gesprecht. Wir haben about when she was in Amerika gesprecht. I learned that ihre Mutter ist tot, denn sie hatte Cancer. On a brighter note, sie ist zwanzig Jahre alt und kann jetzt fahren. She will start college next year, but doesn't know yet what she wants to do. It was really good to hear from her and i'm sure we will communicate more now that i am learning Deutsch.

AMD 5 - Bolton: «Weitere Zeichen der Besserung» bei Muamba
For the AMD I read an article about Bolton midfielder and his recent heart attack. A few weeks ago English born born midfield Fabrice Muamba had a heart attack while playing in a match vs. the Tottenham Hotspur in the FA-Cup-Viertelfinale. After this the Fußball commuity really came together. In Madrid the Real Madrid team wore shirts saying "Gute Besserung Muamba" which I asume is along the lines of get well soon. I picked up on quite a bit of this article such as Der englische Fußballprofi Fabrice Muamba which I presumed means the English football player Fabrice Muamba. The phrase "des 23-Jährigen" the 23 year old. Also "Muamba war im FA-Cup-Viertelfinale bei Tottenham Hotspur", which means "Muamba was in the FA Cup Quarter final with the Tottenham Hotspur." This is Fabrice Muamba and my heart goes out to him and his family:

I am Legend
Dieses Woche for AMD I watched the movie Ich bin Legend auf Deutsch. The movie is about most of humanity dying off and one survivor is trying to find a cure for the monsters that are left over. It is a futuristic movie, and I usually do not enjoy those, but I really liked this one. It was very interesting to listen to the language without having the subtitles turned on. It was funny hearing a German mans voice put to Will Smith's face, but I still liked it.
I understood a lot more than I though I would have, but I had only seen this movie once along time ago so I would have to stop and go back to see if I could catch what they were saying. For a different AMD this semester I had watched a different movie, but now I am realizing after watching this movie that I am able to understand the faster speaking much better. I didn't necessarily catch every single word that they were saying, but I recognized the major words, which helped me make sense of what they were generally saying. I really enjoy watching movies in German because it really helps me get use to listening to the language.

Willkommen!!
Welcome to our class blog!
We will be using this blog throughout the semester for two kinds of assignments:
1. Once per chapter, the homework plan will direct you to post a response to the culture readings for the chapter on the blog.
2. Roughly every other week, the homework plan will direct you to post here for your Abenteuer mit Deutsch (AMD) assignment. First you do a fun activity that involves German, then you post about it. You should spend an hour total on this (maybe 45-55 minutes doing something, 5-15 minutes posting about it). See Was ist ein AMD, AMD Ideen and Beispiele for ideas. This should get you excited about the kinds of things you can do!
Whenever you post something, please include your name and the name of the assignment (e.g. AMD2, Kultur5) as labels. See "Blog: How To" for more details!
